The R.N.L.I. makes awards and recognition to those who have provided a service to lifesaving, where appropriate, and not only to R.N.L.I. crews.
1851 R.N.L.I. Silver Medal to Pilot John Mitchell for the rescue of 3 crew of the Cutter ‘Adele’.
1857 R.N.L.I. Silver Medals (5) to Henry Bougourd, Peter Corbet, George Hughes, Pilots, also William Pillar (Gunner), William Cockran (Steward) who were members of the crew of the Revenue Cutter Eagle for the rescue of 6 crew from the barque ‘Boadicea’.
1951 The Thanks of the Institution on Vellum to Messrs. S. Torode, A. Falla and B. Robilliard for the rescue of two men from rocks at Les Pecqueries Bay
1963 R.N.L.I. Gold Medal to Coxswain Hubert Petit, Bronze medals to John Petit, Eric Pattimore. Thanks on Vellum to John W. Le Page, Bob Vowles, Alfred William Ogier, Reuben Martel and Henry C Bisson for the rescue of 9 crew members from the motor ship ‘Johann Collett’.
1971 The Thanks of the Institution on Vellum to Coxswain John Petit and letters of appreciation to John W le Page, Eric Pattimore, Bob Vowles, Alfred W. Ogier, Reuben Martel, Lloyd de Mouilpied, John ‘Chick’ Robilliard for the rescue of 2 and the yacht ‘Solstice’.
During the same year, the R.N.L.I. awarded The Thanks of the Institution on Vellum to Charles Carre and al letter of appreciation to John Allen and Fred Jennings for the rescue of two French students whose yacht was wrecked on the N.E coast of Alderney.

1979 Bronze Fourth-Service Clasp to Coxswain John Petit, Medal Service Certificates to Eric Pattimore, Bob Vowles, John ‘Chick’ Robilliard, Robert ‘Snowy’ Hamon and Graham Eker for the rescue of 2 bodies landed from the motor ship ‘Cantonad’ on 4th January.
1981 Gold Medal to Coxswain Mike Scales, Bronze Medals to Peter Bougourd, Bob Vowles, Alan Martel, John Webster, John Bougourd, Peter Bisson and Richard J. Hamon for the rescue of 29 from the Motor ship ‘Bonita’ on 13th December.
Maude Smith Award to Coxswain Mike Scales for the bravest act of lifesaving that year.
1983 The Thanks of the Institution Inscribed on Vellum to Coxswain Mike Scales, Peter Bougourd and Alan Martel for the rescue of 7 crew from the yacht ‘Wild Rocket’ on 11th October.
1984 Bronze Medal to Coxswain Mike Scales and Thanks of the Institution Inscribed on Vellum to Bob Vowles for the rescue of 9 from the Liberian cargo vessel ‘Radiant Med’ on 24th January.
1985 Bronze Second-Service Clasp to Second Coxswain Peter Bisson, and The Thanks of the Institution Inscribed on Vellum to Alan Martel and Michael ‘Micky’ Guille for the rescue of 3 from the French Yacht ‘Matam II’ on 11th August.
1992 Silver Medal to Coxswain Peter Bisson. The Thanks of the Institution Inscribed on Vellum to John Bougourd, Jim Youlton, Keith Martel, Philip Martel, Gary Cook, Andrew Le Prevost, Vince Helmot and Robert ‘Snowy’ Hamon for the rescue of 6 from the yacht ‘Sena Siorra’ on 30th August. Maude Smith Award to Coxswain Peter Bisson for the bravest act of lifesaving that year.

1994 The Thanks of the Institution Inscribed on Vellum to Jim Youlton and Robert Hamon for the rescue of 1 from the yacht ‘Keranne’ on 19th October using the Y boat inflatable. Coxswain Peter Bisson received a Letter of Thanks signed by the Chairman.
2006 Letter of Thanks to Coxswain John Bougourd and the crew for the rescue of a Kayaker off Brecqhou.
2008 A Chairman’s Letter of Thanks to Coxswain ‘Buz’ White and a Chief Executive’s Letter of Thanks to Vince Helmot, Jim Youlton, Rob Alder, Danny Blake and John Le Tissier for the rescue of 40 from the Swedish Sailing Training school ship ‘Alva’.
Foreign Awards
1931 Letter of Thanks from the French Government for the rescue of 17 men from the naval ship ‘Mutin’.
1963 Norwegian Lifeboat Institution Gold medal to Coxswain Bert Petit and Silver cups to John Petit and Eric Pattimore. From the Owners of the ship, wristwatches to all the lifeboat crew for the rescue of 9 crew members from the ‘Johann Collett’.
1981 Silver Plate presented to Coxswain Mike Scales for the rescue of the crew of ‘Bonita’ by the Norwegian Company responsible for the crew.
1984 Gold Medal of the Greek Ministry of Merchant Marine awarded to Coxswain John Petit, Silver Medals and Vellums to each crew member for the rescue service to ‘Cantonad’ in 1979.
1984 Special certificate of Commendation from the Republic of Liberia for the rescue service to the ‘Radiant Med’.
2006 Letter of Thanks from the Government of the Marshall Islands for the rescue of 10 from the Chemical Tanker ‘Ece’. The Ships Insurers, at the request of the crew, did likewise.

Special Awards presented at Government House
We are pleased to announce that Celia Allen and Edward Fattorini, both members of the Management Committee have been awarded RNLI Gold Badges for long service to the local branch – particularly in fund raising. They were honoured to receive these awards from the HRH The Duke of Kent on 23rd May at the Annual Awards Ceremony at the Barbican. Veronica Gould, a very proactive fund raising member of Celia’s team has been awarded a Silver Badge, and Alf Solway has been nominated for an official “Letter of Thanks” in appreciation of his many years of collecting for the local RNLI.
The Lieutenant Governor – Air Marshal Peter Walker presented special awards at Government House last night (Tuesday 24th September 2013).
